Big changes are brewing at Starbucks. Remember back in January when the CEO hinted at corporate layoffs? Well, they’re here.

Word came down Monday: 1,100 corporate jobs are being cut. Ouch. The company says it needs to “re-imagine” itself. It’s all part of the “Back to Starbucks” plan. What’s that about?

What’s the “Back to Starbucks” Plan?

Starbucks wants to get back to its roots. Remember when it was all about the coffeehouse experience? That’s what they’re aiming for.

To make that happen, they’re shaking things up. That means looking at how the company is structured and where they can be more efficient. Unfortunately, that also means job losses.

    Who’s Affected?

    Here’s the breakdown:

    • 1,100 corporate jobs are gone.
    • Several hundred open positions won’t be filled.

The good news? Baristas and other employees in the stores, roasting plants, and warehouses are safe. This is about the folks working in the corporate offices.

    Why Now?

Starbucks has been struggling a bit. Sales at existing stores haven’t been great for a while. Four quarters in a row, in fact.

The CEO, who joined last September, is trying to turn things around. He’s already made some changes, like bringing back ceramic mugs. Yes, ceramic mugs! He also put limits on mobile orders. Why? To cut down on long lines and make the in-store experience better.

    The Hard Part

Losing a job is never easy. Starbucks says it’s a “hard decision,” but that it’s necessary for the company’s future.

The goal? To get Starbucks back on track and deliver for both employees and customers. It’s a tough balancing act, for sure.
