Let’s be real. Facebook isn’t exactly “cool” anymore, right? Especially among Gen Z. We hear all the time about young people leaving the platform. And a recent study backs that up.

But hold on. There’s a twist.

A surprising number of Gen Zers are still on Facebook. Why? It’s not for keeping up with Aunt Susan’s vacation pics. It’s all about the Marketplace.

    The Marketplace Magnet

Think of Facebook Marketplace as a giant online garage sale. But way more convenient. Launched back in 2016, it lets you buy and sell stuff locally. From furniture to vintage clothes, you can find just about anything.

And Gen Z is all over it.

    Why? A couple reasons:

    • Safety First: Meeting up with strangers to buy stuff can be scary. Having a Facebook profile can make things feel a little safer. You can see who you’re dealing with, unlike Craigslist or other anonymous platforms.
    • Save Money, Save the Planet: Gen Z cares about being sustainable and saving cash. Marketplace lets you do both! Buying used is good for the environment and your wallet. It’s a win-win.

It’s like finding a hidden treasure. Or scoring a killer deal on something you really want. Who wouldn’t be into that?

    Big Business, Big Opportunities

Facebook Marketplace is HUGE. We’re talking over a billion users. That’s a lot of potential buyers and sellers.

Even eBay is getting in on the action. They’re partnering with Facebook to put some of their listings on Marketplace. Analysts think this could bring in billions in extra sales for eBay.

But it’s not just the big companies making money. Regular people are building businesses on Marketplace. For example, I read about a woman named Leena. She started selling plants on Marketplace as a side hustle. She makes $25,000 a month!

    The Takeaway?

Don’t count Facebook out just yet. While Gen Z might not be using it to post selfies, they’re definitely using it to shop. And that’s a pretty big deal.

Who knew Facebook could be so… practical?
