We’ve all gotten used to working from our couches, right? But Daymond John, the FUBU founder and “Shark Tank” star, has a different view. And it might surprise you.
John’s been on the hunt for talent, recently posting on social media about a graphic designer position at his company, The Shark Group. While the location wasn’t explicitly mentioned, being in Miami probably helps. Why? Because Daymond’s a believer in the power of in-person work.
Why In-Person Matters
Unlike Kevin O’Leary, who’s all about that pajama-bottoms-in-interviews life, John thinks there’s something special about being in the same room. “Working in person makes a big difference,” John wrote. “I also missed being around my team every day (Don’t tell them I said that. )”
Think about it. How many times have you sparked an idea just by overhearing a conversation? Or gotten a quick answer to a question by simply turning to your colleague?
A Peek Inside Daymond’s Workspace
John recently gave a tour of his coworking office at Mindspace in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. His company moved there last fall. “I believe this is where the real work is going and how entrepreneurs should be working,” John said.
The office has all the usual coworking perks: phone booths, a coffee bar, conference rooms. But John’s corner office is unique, featuring standing desks and portraits of his “Shark Tank” co-stars. Nice touch, right?
The Unexpected Benefits of Coworking
John says being in a coworking space means you never know what opportunities might pop up. He mentioned an “AI conference” happening in a meeting room. And guess what? He might be hiring some of those people.
It’s about being in the mix, absorbing information, and making connections you wouldn’t otherwise. It is like accidentally finding a $20 bill in your old jacket. Unexpected, but very welcome!
Flexibility for the Future
As more companies bring people back to the office, John highlighted the flexible walls and options for growth. Whether you’re bringing back two employees or two hundred, the space can adapt.
After everyone working remotely, it’s hard to predict how much space you’ll need. Coworking offers that flexibility. It’s like having a closet that magically adjusts to fit all your clothes.
