Amazon Chooses Zoom: What Happens to Chime Video Conferencing?

Big news in the tech world! Amazon is making a switch. They’re saying goodbye to their own video conferencing tool, Chime. And hello to Zoom.

Yep, you read that right. Zoom will now be the go-to meeting app for Amazon employees worldwide. That’s according to an internal memo that was leaked.

Why the Change?

Why the sudden change of heart? Amazon says Chime had its limits. It wasn’t as useful outside of the Amazon ecosystem. Zoom, on the other hand? A better fit for their needs.

Chime was like that one tool in your toolbox that only works for a specific screw. Zoom is the all-purpose screwdriver. Makes sense, right?

This is a huge win for Zoom. They’re already a major player in the video conferencing game. And this just solidifies their position. Their revenue is up, too. More than expected, actually.

What About Chime Users?

If you’re a Chime user, don’t panic. Amazon will still support the service until February 20, 2026. Plenty of time to find a new solution.

Microsoft 365 in the Mix

But wait, there’s more! Amazon is also rolling out Microsoft 365 tools to its employees. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint… the whole shebang.

They can even use Microsoft Teams for meetings. But Zoom is still the default. Confusing? Maybe a little.

This change impacts a lot of people. We’re talking about 350,000 corporate employees. That’s a big chunk of Amazon’s workforce.

Another One Bites the Dust

Chime isn’t the only Amazon product getting the axe. They also shut down Inspire this week. Remember Inspire? It was their attempt at a TikTok-like shopping experience. Didn’t quite take off, did it?
